Best Travel Clothes
Steamer
As we've already reviewed four travel clothes steamers, the Jiffy Personal
Travel steamer and Conair GS16 are both considered the BEST travel clothes
steamers.
Conair GS16 is (middle right) the smallest in this category, even small than
your regular iron judging by size. Even though it's smaller it still has a steam-ironing function which will come
in handy if you want to steam-iron a particular item but don't want to take our the heavy iron and ironing board
out of the closet. You can just pour regular tap water inside the steamer, plug it into the outlet, go brew
yourself some coffee and by the time you come back it's going to be all ready to go.
The Jiffy steamer (far right) comes in two colors, pink and black. For boys
and girls, apparently. Made out of very durable plastic this steamer could easily fit into your carry-on bag, but
not as easily as Conair GS16. This is just a sturdy unit and the beauty of it is that you can just hold it in your
hand and steam your clothes, without too much movement and adjustment. Just pour in tap water, fire this thing up,
wait for about four minutes and it's ready for steaming.
Other great thing about it is that it doesn't have any nozzles like GS5 and
GS10. Nozzles can often develop cracks which will make hot steam turn into water during contact with cold air and
end up dripping hot water on your hands, thus giving you burns. Both Jiffy steamer and Conair GS16 will not let
that happen because they simply don't have any nozzles. In both steam comes out directly from the unit.
Some people mention using distilled water over just regular tap water,
because tap water contains chemicals and minerals and therefore can get "nitty-gritty" inside the steamer stuck,
but we're realized that this only happens if you continually use your steamer for more than two years.
If you want to get the hard stuff off of your steamer in case it's already
getting stuck with hard particles - we recommend dissolving some dishwasher gel in water, pouring it in the front
of the steamer and letting it stand overnight. That should clean it up.
As far as cost goes - the Conair GS16 is the cheapest steamer, mostly because
of it's size. The Jiffy personal steamer will cost you $10-12 more on average, but you can always buy a used one
for even cheaper, making those two models almost equal in price.
